My dear Mother was a resident at the Russell Residence in Bowie, MD from May of 2015 until her death last fall, and l, without reservation, highly recommend this facility for the care of a loved one or even you, should you need a home away from home and care beyond that normally provided in your own residence. Not only are 3 nutritious meals provided daily (and snacks as well), but they are customized for individual dietetic needs (soft, pureed or liquid diet) as required. I never recall smelling foul or unpleasant odors. The Russell Residence was the best place for my Mother in her last year and a half. Her final days and months were peaceful and tranquil- Our family was confident that her needs were being attended to by the staff, and she was being well-cared for and treated with kindness and respect.
Here all clients/residents are treated with the same kindness, gentleness and compassion. I have witnessed a staff member taking the time to listen to a client reminisce about his youth upon hearing an old, love song – not rushing him or doing anything else but simply listening and interacting with him. I particularly like that staff view the clients as people who have lived interesting lives and sometimes just want to share those memories with someone.
The owner also shows compassion and concern for the clients. She, also, personally takes the time to work with and train new workers on their first day on the job, even the night-shift employees. She is hands-on, accessible and very involved which is something I have found missing in many facilities. I think her own personal commitment and concern for the welfare of her clients sets the tone for the rest of the staff. lt has been said, “lt begins at the top.” That is why, along with the other points I have touched upon, I unequivocally recommend the Russell Residence.
